Table Manipulation in LibreOffice Writer


Create Table in LibreOffice Writer-

Table manipulation is the powerful tools in Libreoffice Writer, which is used to insert table in the document or manipulate the table like adding or removing rows and columns, formatting table.

Insert Table in document-

Writer provide the facility to insert new table in the document as you want. To insert table in a document follow these steps-

Go to Table Menu>> Select Insert Table >> Then put the number of rows and column as you want and click on below insert button.   OR

Click on Insert Table option from standard toolbar.  OR

Press Ctrl+F12 shortcut key from keyboard.

After inserting a table you can also add row and column in the table by clicking on Table menu>>Insert>Row Above/Row Below/Column Left/Column Right.

Changing Cell width and Height-

A cell is a small but important entity which is used to store a data in a table. It is a intersection of row and column. A cell is a place which takes values or text as input. So to change the cell width and height, change the width of column and height of the row. You can apply this by clicking on Table Menu>>Size>>Row Height/Column Width.

Alignment of text in a cell-

Alignment of text in the cells refers to the position or arrangement of text in the table. You can apply alignment in a cell by using paragraph alignment options, Align Left/Align Center/Align Right/Justify as well as to arrange data top, middle, and bottom use Align Top/Center Vertically/Align Bottom options.

Deleting Column, Row, and Table-

You can delete column, row and table by using Delete>>Rows/Columns/Table from table menu or click right mouse button on table and choose Delete option.

Merge Rows, Columns and Cells-

You can merge rows, columns and cells by choosing Merge Cells option. To apply merge cells first select the cell range that you want to merge and then go to Table>>Merge Cells option or you can also find this by right click on the table.

Row, Column, Cell and Table Splitting-

You can split row, column and cell by using split cell option and you can also break table by using split table option. To apply this go to table menu and choose split cell option to split cell, row and column, and to break the table choose split table option from the table menu. 

Border and Shading-

Select the object (Table, Paragraph) for which you want to set a border. Go to Format Menu>>Paragraph>>Border. Here you can click border tab and set line style, color, shadow, etc. as you want and click on OK button. To  apply border and shading in table use table property option.
