Entering Data [Text, Number, Date] in cells

You have several options when you want to enter data manually in Calc spreadsheet. You can enter data in one cell, in several cells at the same time or on more than one spreadsheet at once. The data that you enter can be numbers, text dates or times. You can format the data in a variety of ways. And, there are several settings that you can adjust to make data entry easier for you.

The different types of data that can be entered in Calc spreadsheet are:

1)) Entering numbers: To enter number in Calc we use keyboard or numeric keypad. To enter a negative number, we use (-) minus symbol front of a number. Numbers are right-aligned by default.

2)) Entering Text:  Text is left-aligned by default.

3)) Entering number as text:  If a number is entered is 01413, leading with 0. To preserve this is telephone area codes, type an apostrophe in front as ‘01431.

4)) Entering Date and times:  you can separate date elements by slash (/) or hyphen (-) and in time by using colon (:).

5)) Entering Special character:  Click Insert >> special character to open special character dialog and then select any special character which you want, then click on ok button.

Formatting Data in Calc Spreadsheet –

You can format the inserted data and text is Calc spreadsheet by using several different methods. It can either be edited as part of a cell style so that it is automatically applied or it can be applied manually to the cell. To access the options to format a cell, select the appropriate cell or cells, right- click on it and select Format cells or by using Formatting toolbar as you can resize your font, bold, italic, underline. You can align you text, data entered by using Right, left and center alignment toolbar.

Click inside of cell A1 on your spreadsheet, and do the following:

Type the word “ ITCOMPUTERGURUJI” (without quotation marks) , Apply some formatting like bold, Italic, Underline and font color etc. on a cell & Press Enter key. The active cell will move down one to cell A2.

On the Spreadsheet, click a cell. Type a date or time as follows:

To enter a date, use a slash mark or a hyphen to separate the parts of a date. For example, type 01-01-2020.

To enter a time that is based on the 12-hour clock enters the time followed by a space and then type a or p after the time. For example, 9:00 PM. Otherwise, Calc enters the time as AM.

Note: To enter the current date, press Ctrl+Shift+ ; ( Semicolon).

To insert content into a Cell:

1)) Click a cell to select it.

2)) Type content into the selected cell, then press Enter key on your keyboard. The content will appear in the cell and formula bar. You can also Enter and edit cell content in the formula bar.

To delete cell content:

1)) Select the cell with content you want to delete.

2)) Press the delete key on your keyboard. The cell’s contents will be deleted or.

To delete cells (Ctrl+-):

1)) Select the cell(s) you want to delete.

2)) Go to sheet menu-->Select delete cell or right click on cell --> Select delete cell or press Ctrl + (-) Key from the keyboard.

3)) Then delete cell dialog box will appear on screen with following options:

Shift cell up --> To delete the cell & shift down cell data to upward cell.

Shift cell left --> To delete the cell & Shift right side data to left side.

Delete entire Row (s)--> to delete entire selected row.

Delete entire column (s)--> To delete entire selected column.
