Using Cut, Copy, Paste and Paste Special in LibreOffice Calc Spreadsheet


Cut, Copy, Paste & Paste Special-

To copy paste cell content –

By default when you copy and paste the range of cells, it will copy the data as well as formatting such as font, format borders, background color, etc. To copy a range, select the first cell in your range & use drag & drop method. OR

To copy the cell, click on Edit menu and choose Copy or click Copy icon from toolbar or press CTRL+C from keyboard . You will see a dotted border appear around the range of cells indicating that the cells are in the clipboard and ready to be pasted to another location in your spreadsheet.

To paste the range of cell, select the cells where you want to paste the content click on Edit menu and choose Paste or click Paste icon from toolbar or press CTRL+V from keyboard . Now you should see the pasted range in the new location in your spreadsheet.

To cut paste cell content –

Unlike coping and pasting which duplicates cell content, cut option allow you to move content between cells.

1. Select the cell(s) you want to move. Click the Cut commanded in Edit menu, or Click on cut icon from the standard toolbar or press Ctrl+ X on your keyboard.

2. Select the cells where you want to paste the content. The cut cells will now have a dashed box around them. Click the Paste command on Edit menu, or Paste icon from standard toolbar or press Ctrl+ V on your keyboard.

3. The cut content will be removed from the original cell pasted into the selected cells.

Paste Special in Calc-

Paste Special command allow you several choices how to format text when pasted. To apply this first cut or copy the selected cell and click the desired location in spreadsheet where you want to use paste special option. Paste special allow different way to paste contents such as-
        Paste Unformatted Text- Ctrl+Alt+Shift+V
        Paste Only Text
        Paste Only Numbers
        Paste Only Formulas
        Paste Special- Ctrl+Shift+V
