What is Output Device-
Output Device are the part of computer hardware system which receives data from the system and converts it into user-readable form. The output can be text, image, audio and video.
Example of Output Devices-
- Monitors
- Plotter
- Printer
- Speaker
- Projector
Monitor-
Monitor are the main output device of a computer and commonly known as visual display unit (VDU). It display information in pictorial form. It is of following types-
- CRT (Cathode ray tube) monitors- These monitors employ CRT technology, which was used most commonly in the manufacturing of television screens.
- LCD (liquid crystal display) monitors- This type of monitors are also known as flat panel monitor. Most of these employ liquid crystal displays (LCDs) to render images.
- LED (light-emitting diodes) monitors- LED is an electronic device that emits lights when electrical current is passed through it. LED can produce RGB light and white light as well
Printer-
Printer is an output device, it is used to print information on paper. The speed of printer is normally measure in either by Pages Per Minute (PPM) or by Character Per Minute (CPM)
There are two types of printers
- Impact Printers
- Non-Impact Printers
Impact Printers-
The impact printers print the characters by striking them on the ribbon which is then pressed on the paper.
Characteristics of Impact Printer-
- Very noisy
- Useful for bulk printing due to low cost
- There is physical contact with the paper to produce an image
- Character printers (Dot Matrix Printer(DMP) ,Daisy Wheel )
- Line printers (Drum Printer, Chain Printer)
Non impact printers-
Non-impact printers print the characters without using ribbon. These printers print a complete page at a time so they are also called as Page Printers.
Characteristics of Non-impact Printers-
- Faster than impact printers.
- They are not noisy.
- High quality.
- Support many fonts and different character size.
- Laser Printers
- Inkjet Printers
- Thermal Printer
- Electromagnetic Printer
- Electrostatic Printer
Plotter-
A plotter is a special kind of output device that, like a printer, produces images on paper. Plotters are designed to produce large drawings or images, such as construction plans for buildings or blueprints for mechanical objects.
Projector-
A projector is a device that uses light and lenses to take an image and project a magnified image onto a larger screen or wall. The image must be shown through a sealed tube or frame when passing through the lenses to maintain focus.
Speaker-
Speakers are another type of output device, which allow you to listen voice like music.
